The Schleicher AS 33 is a single-seat glider from the German glider manufacturer Alexander Schleicher . It is by various external wing in the FAI - 18m class and FAI 15-m class used.

history

In July 2018, Alexander Schleicher GmbH presented the AS 33 project as the successor to the ASG 29 for the FAI 18 m class. In March 2019, the set of molds was ready and the first wing with winglets was built for the prototype. The successful wing loading test followed in May 2019 and on January 23, 2020 the first flight with Ulrich Kremer at the works airfield near Poppenhausen . In July 2020, flight testing and the type certification process were well advanced. Series production had started and the first outer wing for a 15 m span was built.

construction

The 18-meter span of the four-part wing can be reduced to 15 meters for flights in the FAI 15-m class with a second pair of outer wings. The separation point is 5.1 m half-span.

The Schleicher AS 33 has cambered flaps , upwardly extending three-tier airbrakes and independently switchable electrical valves for the water ballast tanks in the inner and outer wings. The control with aileron and flap overlay was taken over by the ASG 29. Winglets are attached to the wing tips in both versions. The ailerons and airbrakes are automatically connected when the wing is assembled.

The two-point chassis with a disc brake on the main wheel is retractable.
