The Schleicher ASK 23 is a sailplane in GRP construction method. The single-seater is characterized by good-natured flight characteristics in connection with good slow flight and excellent high-speed flight performance and is therefore regarded as the ideal aircraft for B and C students. It is the last construction by Rudolf Kaiser and took off on its maiden flight in 1983. It meets the requirements of the FAI - Club Class . A total of 51 Schleicher ASK 23 and 102 weight-reduced ASK 23B were built by 2001.
history
After the great success of the training two -seater ASK 21 , the demand for a single-seat version for student pilots who are to be retrained to single-seat gliders after the first solo flights increased among Schleicher's customers . This is how the ASK 23 is designed. The cockpit is very similar to the ASK 21 in terms of its basic structure and seating position, and its flight characteristics are also similar. Due to its lower weight, the ASK 23 is more manoeuvrable and it also spins better than the ASK 21.
construction
The Schleicher ASK 23 is a high-performance club-class glider in a middle-decker version with a 15 m wingspan and without flaps .
The laminar wing made of GRP hard foam sandwich and roving spars has Wortmann profiles, the airbrakes extend upwards. Ailerons, elevator and airbrakes are driven by bumpers. The ailerons and the air brakes must be connected manually during assembly.
The application possibilities of the ASK 23B range from the first solo flight to competition flights.
The GRP sandwich fuselage is made in a tube core construction with a spacious safety cockpit. The cockpit has rudder pedals that can be adjusted in flight, an adjustable backrest with an adapted parachute pad and side armrests. The damped elevator is built in a T-tail arrangement and has a spring trim .
The landing gear consists of a rigid nose and stern wheel and a grinding spur or a spur wheel under the rudder. The ASK 23 is equipped with a mechanical drum brake.
The ASK 23 and ASK 23B are approved for simple aerobatics (spinning, looping, turn, lazy eight, chandelle).
