The Oeventrop-Ruhrwiesen glider airfield is located in the Arnsberg administrative district in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerland . It is for gliders , motor gliders , free balloons and Ultralight as well as tow planes for aero tow admitted.
location
The course is located between the center of Oeventrop and the Glösingen district. The Ruhr flows directly south of the runway , so that parts of the airfield are occasionally flooded during high water . The RuhrtalRadweg runs north of the runway and between the airfield buildings.
terrain
The entire area has a length of about 1000 m. The runway with the orientation 12/30 and a length of approx. 600 m is at the western end of it. At the eastern end there is still a 150 m long landing field with the orientation 29, which is used for landing gliders in westerly winds. However, all motor-powered aircraft can also use the 1080 m long glider take-off route for take-off and landing. This is paved. The entire length of the area can be used for winch take-offs for gliders; There are two paved roads between the grass slopes for the Lepo .
The circuit for gliders runs north of the field, for motor-powered aircraft there is a separate circuit to the south.
building
The building complex at the western end of the site includes the club restaurant "Spatzennest" with office and training rooms, a hangar to accommodate the aircraft and a spacious workshop.
Instead of a fixed tower , a mobile launch vehicle based on an old VW bus is used.
history
Today's glider airfield was opened on June 17, 1956. Peter Kürten made the first take-off at the new airfield in a two-seater type Ka 2 b . A year later, the construction work on the clubhouse "Spatzennest" was completed, and in 1958 the runway was enlarged. In 1959 the first of the meanwhile annual airfield festivals took place. In 1961, the extension to the clubhouse, which was then designed as a workshop, was completed, and on May 18, 1963, the aircraft hangar was inaugurated.
In the late 1970s, the airfield was further expanded, the legal requirements were adapted and the winch towing route was asphalted. The present workshop was built in the early 1980s, and in 1987 permission was applied for to operate motor gliders , take-offs from free balloons and aircraft tows.
In 1992 the area was extended by about 100 m and a second towing route was created.
On August 22, 2007, a flood of the Ruhr flooded large parts of the airfield. The water rose to the clubhouse and threatened to reach the hangar, but did not cause any major damage.
