The Sekkodokka ( Norwegian ; Japanese 石膏 谷 Sekko-dani , German 'Gipstal' ) is a depression more than 150 m deep in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It is located east of the Hunakubogropa in the northern part of the Gropeheia in the Balchenfjella of the Sør Rondane .
Japanese scientists took aerial photographs between 1981 and 1982 and carried out surveys between 1987 and 1988 . They named the valley in 1989 after the large gypsum crystals found here . Scientists at the Norwegian Polar Institute translated the Japanese name into Norwegian in 1990.
