Selago is about 190 kinds comprehensive plant genus of the family of Figworts (Scrophulariaceae).

description

Selago species are heather-like, heavily branched dwarf shrubs or occasionally perennial or annual herbaceous plants . They can be hairless or hairy. The stems are ascending to erect. The leaves are stem-borne, perched and alternate individually or in clusters. The leaf blade is linear-lanceolate, elongated, elliptical or spatulate. Towards the front, the leaves are pointed to blunt, the leaf margin is entire to toothed.

The flowers are sessile or on short flower stalks . The calyx is deeply cut so that three to five almost equally large calyx lobes arise. The crown is white, tubular, its coronet is divided into two lips. The corolla tube can be short and wide or long and narrow. The four stamens do not protrude beyond the crown. The ovary is almost spherical, the stigma is split or three-toothed.

The fruits contain two spindle-shaped seeds .

The approximately 190 species of the Selago genus are mainly found in southern Africa , some species are also found in other tropical parts of Africa, the Selago muralis species can be found in Madagascar .
