The Selbergturm near Rothselberg

In 1914, the Selbergverein from Rothselberg built a wooden observation tower and a log cabin on the summit . The wooden tower was replaced in 1969 by a 17.3 m high steel tower. 48 steps lead over two platforms to a 9.6 m high circumferential platform, another 32 steps lead to the upper viewing platform at 16 m tower height , from which there is a good panoramic view. The Selberghütte has been rebuilt and expanded several times. It is open on Sundays.

Traffic and walking

Several hiking trails run around the Selberg, including a stretch of the “Königsland” Nordic walking course. The glider airfield of the Eßweiler air sports club is on the saddle between Königs- and Selberg .

At the beginning of the 20th century, a Roman villa from the 2nd century, the foundation of a tomb and other traces of settlement were discovered on the western slope of the Selberg between Eßweiler and Rothselberg in the valley of the Breitenbach.
