Select (grape variety)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Select white wine variety is a new breed by the French breeder Jean-Louis Vidal. It is a cross between Ugni Blanc and Jurançon Blanc . The variety originated in the 1930s. The primary goal of Vidal, who comes from the Charente department , was to breed new vines suitable for the production of cognac . However, the quality of the brandies is not as good as that of the Ugni Blanc variety. In the 1990s, a planted vineyard area of five hectares was raised.
