Selwig & Lange was a German mechanical engineering - companies in Braunschweig that on 2 June 1877 by the engineers Johann Selwig (1843-1908) and Bruno Lange was established (1843-1907). It ceased operations in 1988.

history

The production program consisted mainly of machines and systems for the sugar industry , distilleries and starch factories , e.g. B. centrifuges , crystallizers, crystal foot systems , beet pulp presses and washing systems for sugar beet . From 1895 systems for powder and explosives factories were also produced and exported. In 1902 the company had 85 employees. During the First World War it was commissioned by the Supreme Army Command to manufacture special machines for the explosives industry.

Due to its small size, the company did not develop an international sales network. A temporary shutdown followed in 1931, but this was reversed in 1933. In 1944, during the Second World War , large areas of the production facilities were destroyed, which is why operations had to be stopped again. Production was resumed in spring 1946. At the time of the centenary in 1977, the company was owned by the third generation of the founding Lange family. From 1978 until the company was sold in 1988, Dipl.-Ing. Siegfried Matusch Managing Partner. Heinz Lange as the majority shareholder, Ruth Lange and Thomas Buchler formed the advisory board. Since there was strong concentration in the sugar industry in West Germany after the end of the war and new investments declined, the sales market shrank. So it happened that in 1988, after 111 years, the company was sold to the Braunschweigische Maschinenbauanstalt (BMA), although it had innovative products in its range, some of which are still produced by BMA today.

The company premises were on Sophienstrasse in the western ring area of Braunschweig. Today the largest factory hall is used as an event center.
