Senior Garden (Heilbronn)
The generation garden (formerly senior garden ) at the Wartbergsteige in Heilbronn is a listed ensemble of garden belvedere , garden and enclosure. The Evangelical Nikolaikirchengemeinde Heilbronn has been cultivating the generation garden on the Wartberg since the beginning of 2017.
history
The garden with belvedere was built in 1911/12 according to plans by Adolf Braunwald for the young Heilbronn merchant Rudolf Sperling (1888–1914). Located at the foot of the Heilbronn Wartberg , a summer resort with a view of the city was created. Merchant Sperling died as a war volunteer just a few days after the start of the war in 1914. The 38-acre property then came into the possession of his cousin, the nurse and later city councilor Irmgard Link (1888–1976). The Link family donated the garden to the Evangelical Church Community of Heilbronn in 1975. As a condition of the foundation, it was agreed that the area should be used for the purpose of mothers' recreation and youth care. Under the management of the Heilbronner Diakonie, the senior citizen's garden was created as a recreation place for the elderly and a meeting place. The Diakonie ended the care of the senior citizen's garden on December 31, 2016.
At the beginning of 2017, interested parishioners from the Nikolaikirchengemeinde Heilbronn founded a circle of friends "Generations Garden on the Wartberg" and took over the management and maintenance of the garden. It was renamed the Generation Garden - as a meeting place beyond the boundaries of the community and open to all generations.
The maintenance of the facility is covered by donations, rentals and from the collection of church services taking place there in the countryside. The work that arises is done by volunteers.
description
The generation garden is a rectangular plot of land that stretches from the entrance on the path connecting the Wartbergsteige and Raffeltersteige in a north-easterly direction up the foot of the Wartberg. The property is terraced by dry stone walls . In the middle of the property there is a path with stairs to a central octagonal pavilion, which is flanked left and right by a vase-crowned pergola and small outbuildings. With the Welschen dome of the pavilion and the vase crown, the Belvedere can be assigned to the neo-baroque style. In the garden there is a rich population of various fruit trees and bushes as well as flower beds.
