Sepp Biehler

Sepp Biehler (born May 30, 1907 in Konstanz on Lake Constance , † February 11, 1973 in Bernau , Black Forest ) was a southwest German painter.

Life, education

Apprenticeship as porcelain painter; Studied at the Karlsruhe Art Academy . Between 1956 and 1969, S. Biehler lived in Hamburg , Boxberg in the Main-Tauber district and near Tauberbischofsheim , then after his last residence in Bernau he relocated.

Artistic work

After he oriented himself towards the New Objectivity from the end of the 1920s , Sepp Biehler soon became one of the better-known painters in the exhibition scene in southern Germany. From the 1930s onwards, Biehler provided numerous private and public buildings in Constance and its surroundings with decorative wall paintings and created Stations of the Cross in some churches. In 1938, together with Elisabeth and Fritz Mühlenweg as well as Alexander Rihm and Werner Rohland, he founded the Constance painter group in 1938 .

After the Second World War , the artist increasingly oriented himself towards figurative abstraction, but retained the themes of his earlier work: religious motifs, landscapes and figure paintings. The mosaics , sgraffiti and stone carvings he created shape many a cityscape in the Main-Tauber district to this day .

In southern Germany, at least a dozen churches received their artistic design through its wall paintings and glass windows .
