Septotheca tessmannii is a tree in the mallow family from the woolen subfamily. It occurs in northern Brazil , Peru and Colombia . It is the only species in the genus Septotheca .

description

Septotheca tessmannii grows as a tree up to 40 meters high. The trunk diameter reaches up to 60–90 centimeters. Larger buttress roots are formed. The bark is gray-brown and comes off in larger plates.

The alternate, leathery, entire, heart- and egg-shaped to elliptical, stalked, rounded-pointed leaves are about 35–40 centimeters long with a petiole. The petiole is about 6 inches long. The nerve is palmate. There are larger stipules .

The long-stemmed, little-flowered, roughly dold-like inflorescences are axillary. The five-fold and stalked flowers with sloping outer calyx have a double flower envelope . The leathery, scaly, rough, about 4 centimeters long calyx is tubular with a simple and a three-lobed, short lip. The yellow-greenish, large and leathery, externally short-haired, up to 4 centimeters long petals are spatulate or wedge-shaped. The slightly protruding stamens with septate, twisted anthers are fused together in a bald tube with a lobed tip. The upper ovary is five-chambered with five stylus branches .

Up to 10-15 centimeters long, five-part and many-seeded, woody, loculicidal, somewhat rough capsule fruits are formed. The seeds are winged.

use

The medium-weight wood is known as Utucuro and is used for some applications.
