Serang is an Indonesian administrative district ( Kabupaten ) in the province of Banten , in the west of the island of Java . The capital is Ciruas .

Serang is located on the northwest corner of Java. In the west lies the Sunda Strait , in the north the Java Sea . To the south are the administrative districts of Pandeglang and Lebak and to the east the administrative district of Tangerang . The cities of Serang and Cilegon form exclaves in the center and in the northwest. The Serang Governorate has 17 islands, including Panjang , Sangiang and Tunda .

Serang has an area of ​​1,467.35 km². Most of the administrative district is below 500  m above sea level . The highest point is 1778  m in the mountains on the border with Pandeglang. The longest river is the Ciujung (Terpanjang) with a length of 56.625 km. The Situ Rawa Danau (Danau / Waduk / Rawa Terluas) is the largest lake with an area of ​​1300 hectares.

Administratively, Serang is divided into 29 districts (Kecamatan) with 326 villages. 254 of these are classified as rural, 72 as urban.

The air temperature in the Serang administrative region was between 23.3 and 33.4 ° C in 2017, with a relative humidity of 82%. 242 rainy days were counted.

Residents

In 2017, 1,493,591 people, 757,089 men and 736,502 women lived in Serang. The population density is 1018 people per square kilometer.

history

Serang Governorate was affected by the 2018 tsunami on Java and Sumatra . The tidal wave was triggered by an eruption of the Krakatau and an underwater landslide.
