Serdar Yüksel (born April 27, 1973 in Essen ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and has been a member of the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament since 2010 .

Life

Serdar Yüksel is the son of a worker of Kurdish origin who immigrated from Turkey in 1964 , who then worked for Krupp and was involved in IG Metall . Despite a recommendation after elementary school for secondary school or grammar school, Yüksel first attended secondary school. After graduating from secondary school in Wattenscheid , he attended the technical college in Bochum and completed training as a nurse in 1994. He worked as an intensive care nurse until 2010. At the same time, he first studied nursing science, then switched to part-time distance learning in applied health sciences and graduated in 2008 with a university certificate as a health manager.

Yüksel is a member of the Alevis religion .

Serdar Yüksel has been a member of the SPD since 1989. He held various party offices with the Jusos and the SPD. In 2001 Yüksel was elected to the board of the SPD Bochum and Wattenscheid, of which he is active as an advisory member to this day. He is also a member of ver.di (since 1991), board member of the Current Forum (since 2010), member of the board of trustees of the Development and Peace Foundation (since 2014), chairman of the Ruhr-Mitte workers' welfare organization (since 2016) and a member of the UN supervisory board - Refugee aid (since 2017).

In May 2010, Yüksel was elected directly to the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia in the regional constituency of Bochum III - Herne II . In 2012 he was re-elected with an absolute majority. Yüksel is a full member of the Committee on Labor, Health and Social Affairs, the Committee on Petitions and the Committee on Europe and One World.

In the state elections in 2017, Yüksel was again confirmed as a direct candidate and has been chairman of the petitions committee since then.

Remarkable

In October 2018, he saved the life of a scientific employee of the AfD parliamentary group in the health committee of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia using chest compressions .
