Sergey Solovyov ( Russian Сергей Михайлович Соловьёв , scientific. Transliteration Sergei Solovyev Michajlovič ; born May 5 . Jul / 17th May  1820 greg. In Moscow ; † October 4 . Jul / 16th October  1879 . Greg ibid) was a Russian historian .

Life

He studied in Moscow and spent the years 1842–1844 abroad as a tutor to Count Stroganov , mainly in Paris . After he obtained his master's degree with his work “On Relations between Novgorod and the Grand Dukes” and his doctorate with “The History of Relations between the Princes of the Ruriks”, he gave lectures on history at Moscow University , in 1855 dean of the philosophical faculty and 1871 rector of the university.

In addition, he taught history to the grand dukes in Petersburg and held the post of director of the antiquities collection in the Kremlin . When the Minister of Education Tolstoy wanted to abolish the liberal university statute, Solovyov got into a dispute with the authorities and demanded his dismissal in 1877, which he received. He died in Moscow on October 4, 1879.

He was the father of the symbolist poet and philosopher Vladimir Solovyov .
