Sergei Stadnikov (born July 20, 1956 in Pärnu , † June 26, 2015 in Tallinn ) was an Estonian Egyptologist , historian , publicist and translator .

Life

Sergei Stadnikov graduated from school in the Pirita district of Tallinn . He studied history from 1977 to 1982 at Tartu State University . At the same time he began studying the Egyptian language with the Estonian linguist and orientalist Pent Nurmekund (1906-1996). Later he continued his Egyptological studies at the State University of Leningrad with Igor Vinogradov .

Sergei Stadnikov was one of the most internationally known Egyptologists in Estonia. Most recently he taught at the History Institute of Tallinn University . Stadnikov has presented numerous publications. In 1998 his standard work Vana-Egiptuse kultuurilugu ("Ancient Egyptian Cultural History") was published. In the literary magazine Looming he published the first commented Estonian translation of the story The Story of Sinuhe . He was a member of the International Association of Egyptologists (IAE) and the Academic Society for German-Baltic Culture in Dorpat / Tartu . Stadnikov also published numerous specialist articles in German.

In addition to his studies in Egyptology, he wrote on general historical and current political topics, including minority issues in Estonia and the crisis in the Middle East. Politically he was close to the Center Party .
