Life

Sergei Traustel was born in Saint Petersburg in 1903. He studied mathematics and mechanical engineering in Dorpat , from 1920 at the Technical Universities (TH) Darmstadt and Berlin . He became a Dr.-Ing. In 1939 in Berlin with a thesis on combustion, gasification and slagging . PhD. He completed his habilitation there in 1941 with the writing Burn in suspension . Traustel worked from 1931 to 1935 as an assistant, then from 1935 to 1942 as chief engineer with Rudolf Drawe in the mechanical engineering department of Faculty III for mechanical engineering. From 1942 to 1945 he worked as a lecturer in fuel technology at the TH Berlin. After the end of the Second World War , from 1950 to 1952 he held a teaching position for the theory of similarities in chemical technology at the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 1953 to 1960 he was a private lecturer for theoretical fuel technology at the chair for fuel technology at the TU Berlin. There he was employed in the summer semesters of 1962 and 1963 as a visiting professor with the same teaching activities.

In 1960, Traustel moved to the Clausthal Mining Academy , where he taught from 1960 to 1963 as an associate professor and from 1963 to 1964 as a full professor of thermal management and furnace construction . He was the director of the institute and transformed the institute for heat management and furnace construction into the institute for heat technology and industrial furnace construction.

In 1964 he went to the Technical University of Braunschweig , where he took over the chair for heating and combustion. Under his direction, the chair for heat and fuel technology was created. Both in Clausthal-Zellerfeld and in Braunschweig, new institute buildings were built under Traustel's direction. During his time in Braunschweig, from 1964 to 1968, he was again a visiting professor at the TU Berlin. He retired in Braunschweig in 1971. There he lived at Kastanienallee 68. Traustel died in February 1975 at the age of 71 in Braunschweig. He has published more than 80 scientific papers in his field.
