Rudolf Drawe (born January 14, 1877 in Saarbrücken , † October 25, 1967 in Berlin ) was a German professor of fuel technology and rector of the TH Berlin-Charlottenburg .

Life

Rudolf Drawe was born as the son of Rudolf Drawe and Sophie. Reinhold was born in Saarbrücken. After attending grammar school there, he studied mechanical engineering at the TH Berlin-Charlottenburg, where he took the main examination in the academic year 1901/1902. From 1902 to 1908 he worked as an engineer and later chief engineer at Ehrhardt & Sehmer in Saarbrücken, where he and Theodor Ehrhardt developed large gas machines, especially for the steel industry. After a year as technical director and member of the board of the A. Thyssen & Co. machine factory in Mülheim an der Ruhr, he became technical director and member of the board of Ehrhardt & Sehmer in 1909 .

In 1915 he was appointed professor for fuel technology at the TH Berlin-Charlottenburg from his industrial practice. He took up the teaching post in 1919 and held it continuously until 1952. His main areas of work were internal combustion engines, steam boilers and fuel processing. Drawe was instrumental in the development of the gasification of lignite under pressure with oxygen-water vapor mixtures, the process known today as the Sasol-Lurgi dry bottom process . Under his direction the scientific support and processing of the process patented by Lurgi in 1927 took place. Rudolf Drawe is one of the fathers of modern fuel gasification. He was dean and from 1929 to 1930 rector of the TH Berlin-Charlottenburg.

In addition to his scientific activity, Rudolf Drawe was a member of the supervisory board of the German shipbuilding and mechanical engineering company in Bremen, the mechanical engineering AG vorm. Ehrhardt & Sehmer in Saarbrücken and the Baroper Walzwerk AG in Dortmund-Barop.

In recognition of his services, Drawe was made an honorary senator of the Technical University of Berlin. In 1949 he became an honorary member of the German Association for Gas and Water. V. (DVGW). In 1938 he received the Estonian Order of the White Star . In 1953 he was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany . The Technical University of Berlin named the Institute for Fuel Technology “Rudolf Drawe Institute for Fuel Technology” in his honor.

Rudolf Drawe was a member of the Weinheimer Corps Pomerania-Silesia, Berolina and Saxonia-Berlin.
