Hermann Wiebe

Hermann Wiebe (* 27. October 1818 Thorn in West Prussia ; † 26. March 1881 in Berlin ; Complete name: Friedrich Carl Hermann Wiebe ) was a German mill construction - and engineering - engineering . He was the first rector of the Technical University Berlin , today's Technical University Berlin.

Life

Wiebe left the grammar school in Elbing before graduating from high school and learned the mill building trade and milling at a Danzig mill from 1836 to 1839 . In 1839 he began studying at the industrial institute in Berlin and in 1842 passed the examination as a mill builder. The Neiss mill is considered his most important practical work .

His strengths were shown early on, especially in the didactic field. Soon after his exams, in 1843, he became editor of the archive for practical mill construction and was appointed full teacher at the industrial institute by Christian Peter Wilhelm Beuth in 1845 and also at the general building school a year later . In 1853 he was appointed professor for mechanical engineering at the industrial institute. Wiebe published numerous textbooks, such as the manual of the machine customer in 1858 . In Berlin he was a member of the Masonic lodge to the three Seraphim and from 1862 to 1871 their master of the chair .

In 1877, he succeeded the late Richard Lucae as head of the Berlin Building Academy . In 1878 the building academy was merged with the industrial institute to form the Technical University of Charlottenburg . Wiebe was initially appointed founding rector and a year later elected rector of the university. In March 1881 he died unexpectedly at his place of work as a secret government councilor . He was buried in the old churchyard of the Twelve Apostles congregation in Schöneberg . The grave has not been preserved.

A street in Berlin-Moabit is named after him and other members of the family.
