Kurt Kutzler

Kurt Reiner Kutzler (born October 17, 1941 in Aussig , Sudetenland ) is a German mathematician and former president of the Technical University of Berlin .

Life

After the war, Kutzler first grew up in Bavaria and graduated from the Goethe-Gymnasium (Berlin-Wilmersdorf) in 1961 . After studying mathematics and physics at the Free University of Berlin , he received his doctorate in mathematics there in 1969. In 1972 he received his habilitation at the University of Mannheim . In April 1973, Kutzler became a professor of mathematics specializing in functional analysis at the TU Berlin.

From 1984 to 1986 he was Dean of the Department of Mathematics and from 1987 to 1989, from 1991 to 1993 and from 1999 to 2002 first Vice President of the TU Berlin.

From 2000 to 2004 he was one of the seven vice-presidents of the German Rectors' Conference .

From 2002 to 2010 Kutzler was President of the Technical University of Berlin.

He has been married since 1968.

Honors

In 2009 he was awarded an honorary professorship from Jiaotong University in Shanghai . In the same year he received an honorary doctorate from Moscow State University of Construction (MSUCE).
