Manfred Fricke
Manfred Fricke (born June 24, 1936 in Hainichen , Saxony; † May 5, 2009 ) was a German engineer and president of the Technical University of Berlin from 1985 to 1993.
Life
From 1955 to 1962 he studied mechanical engineering with a focus on flight technology at the TU Berlin . After doctorate in 1966 and habilitation in 1970, Fricke became director of the Institute for Flight Guidance and Aviation at the TU Berlin. In 1978 he was appointed full professor for flight control and air traffic at the Institute for Aerospace at the TU Berlin. From 1985 to 1993 he was President of the TU Berlin and succeeded Jürgen Starnick in this position . After German reunification , he became the chairman of an expert commission set up by the Berlin Senate to overcome the isolation of the East and West Berlin research landscape. On September 15, 2004, Fricke retired.
Fricke was an expert in flight safety technology, air traffic and airport planning and initiated the Center for Flight Simulation Berlin GmbH at the TU Berlin. As an emeritus, Fricke continued to work as a Senator of the Helmholtz Association and in the Lower Saxony Scientific Commission .
Fricke's son is Hartmut Fricke , who currently holds the office of dean at the Faculty of Transport Science “Friedrich List” at the TU Dresden .

- 1994 Medal of Honor from the University of Miskolć in Hungary
- 1994 Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class, in recognition of his exemplary university reform efforts in Germany
