Walther Mathesius

Walther Mathesius (* 7. October 1859 in Legnica , † 2. May 1945 in Berlin-Nikolassee ) was Privy Councilor and professor of metallurgy and metallurgy , as well as rector at the Royal Institute of Technology in Berlin (now Technical University of Berlin).

From April 1, 1904, Mathesius was professor of iron and steel engineering and metallurgy in Department V for Chemistry and Metallurgy (renamed in 1922 to Faculty IV for Materials Management ) of the Royal Technical University of Berlin (renamed in 1919 to Technical University of Berlin, later Technical University of Berlin ). He was the rector of the institution in 1909 and 1910.

Mathesius also worked as the head of the Eisenhüttenmännisches Institut at the Technical University of Berlin. He retired on March 31, 1931. His successor on the chair was Robert Durrer (1890–1978).

Towards the end of World War II he committed in 1945 on May 2 suicide .
