Sergio Rodríguez Martínez (born July 26, 1978 in Logroño ) is a former Spanish football player and current coach .

Player career

UE Lleida

The midfielder Sergio Rodríguez Martínez from Logroño started his career as a footballer in 2000 at the amateur club CF Balaguer. After a year he moved to the traditional club UE Lleida , which played in the Segunda Division B. There he played for the next five years. With the Catalans he achieved promotion to the Segunda División in 2003/2004 , but had to accept relegation to the third division with his club after two years.

The last few years

Sergio Rodríguez, who was able to convince as a regular player in the 2nd division, did not stay with his club, but went to the first division relegated FC Cádiz . With the Andalusians, however, he had a difficult first six months, which is why he was initially awarded again to Lleida. There he found back to his old strength, which is why he got a contract with Deportivo Alavés in the summer of 2007 . At the Basques he became a regular player straight away. After a year he moved to league rivals Real Sociedad San Sebastián . There he was also a regular at the beginning of the 2008/09 season , but lost this status and mostly sat on the bench. This did not change in the following season 2009/10 , at the end of which his team rose to the Primera División. His contract was not renewed in the summer of 2010. Rodríguez was without a club for a few months before joining UD Logroñés in early December 2010 . There he played in the Segunda División B until his retirement in 2013 .

Coaching career

After the end of his active career, Rodríguez worked as a football teacher. First, he looked after the U-19s of his former club UD Logroñés . After working as an interim coach for a few days in November 2016, he replaced Rafael Berges as head coach in Segunda División B in March 2017 .
