Sergius Majle , also Sergilius Majel (born on November 9, 1913 ; died on April 7, 1944 in Vienna ) was a Polish slave laborer who was sentenced to death under the Polish Criminal Law Ordinance and beheaded in the Vienna Regional Court .

Life

Majle worked as a carpenter in Traisen for forced labor from October 1940 . On September 4, 1942, he wrote the following lines to a Polish worker:

“Because it is impossible what happens there in our Poland. Think to yourself, my dear, they have already put the Jews in order there. In the governorate they loaded all the Jews, littered the wagons with chlorine powder and lime and drove them out to Malkina at 50 degrees Celsius. You can imagine how they fared along the way. And they didn't even ask who was still alive and who wasn't, but carried them into a ditch. This is what western culture looks like and this is how they treat people. "

In another letter dated October 23, 1942, he said:

“I think that we won't be spending the third winter in Germany; because it is generally said that our guardian is doing very badly and I am very happy because now we will be better off. "

As a result, Majle was identified by the Gestapo on December 15, 1942 as a member of a "political resistance movement" and sentenced on September 8, 1943 to seven years of aggravated prison camp for crimes under the Polish Criminal Law Ordinance .

Judgment of the Imperial Court

On February 10, 1944, however, the Reich Court ruled: “On September 4 and October 23, 1942, the defendant sent letters to the Polish worker [...]. [...] The Polish Criminal Law Ordinance aims above all to preserve the reputation and security of the German Reich and the German people. All other considerations must take a back seat to this purpose of the law. [...] The overall picture of the continued criminal offense of the accused, who is not afraid to rush with gruesome lies, is so repulsive that a less serious case of the crime cannot come into consideration. ”The Reichsgericht changed this judgment in the sentence and sentenced Sergius Majle to death.

Majle was on April 7, 1944 in the Regional Court of Vienna by the guillotine executed .
