Beaches and bays in Mallorca

Ses Fonts de n'Alís is a sandy beach in the southeast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located on the Caló d'en Garrot (also Caló de ses Fonts de n'Alís ), a small side bay of the Cala Mondragó . At ses Fonts de n'Alís , the torrent Torrent de ses Coves del Rei or Torrent d'en Tomàs flows into the Mediterranean . It rarely has water and forms a wetland in front of the beach with the Estany de ses Fonts de n'Alís pond in the center, which sometimes dries out.

Location and description

Ses Fonts de n'Alís
Cala Mondragó

Mondragó Bay is the namesake of a nature park that extends over 765.69 hectares around the bay east of the small town of Santanyí . The Cala Mondragó is about five kilometers east of the city, which is the capital of the municipality of the same name, Santanyí. The ses Fonts de n'Alís beach is located on the north side of Cala Mondragó . To the northeast of the beach are some hotels that were built before the nature park was declared. Today no more building permits are issued there. The next localities, with the exception of smaller settlements (urbanizations) in the vicinity, are Portopetro in the northeast and the southwestern Cala Figuera .

Despite its somewhat remote location, the beach of ses Fonts de n'Alís is a destination for many tourists. In addition to the guests of the adjacent hotels, it is also frequented by day visitors, which is probably due to advertising by the tourism industry, which markets Cala Mondragó as one of the “most beautiful bays in Mallorca”. Several beach bars and souvenir shops benefit from this directly behind the clean sandy beach. Due to its protected location within Cala Mondragó , ses Fonts de n'Alís is often visited by private yachts, with bathers and boat traffic being separated from each other by buoys. The beach is regularly monitored by lifeguards.

To the southwest of the beach, a concrete path about 300 meters long leads along the rocky coast to the less built-up neighboring beach s'Amarador , behind which there are other wetlands of the nature park. Parts of the nature park are only accessible to a limited extent, as around 88 percent of the area is privately owned. It is recommended to use the signposted paths. Information on this is available from the nature park administration, which is located at the car park 500 meters above the beach of ses Fonts de n'Alís . From the parking lot there, only residents, hotel guests and suppliers are allowed to continue driving.

Access

Cala Mondragó

Coming from Santanyí on the MA-19 road in the direction of s'Alqueria Blanca, follow Camí Son Marimon on the right after about 1.3 kilometers . After reaching the Camí de sa Torre from the direction of s'Alqueria Blanca, turn right onto it and drive on the asphalt road to the parking lot at the nature park administration. Unauthorized persons have to cope with the approximately 500 meter long sloping road from there without a motor vehicle.
