Setouakoton

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Setouakoton - in Latin Setuacotum ; Greek  Σετουάκωτον - is a place name that is given in the Geographia of Claudius Ptolemaios as one of the places in the south of the Germania magna along the Danube (πόλεις) with 34 ° 00 'longitude ( Ptolemaic longitudes ) and 48 ° 20' latitude. According to Ptolemy, Setouakoton lies on the Danube between Prodentia and Ouebion . Because of the age of the source, the existence of the place around 150 AD can be assumed.

So far, the ancient site is not considered to be safely localized. An interdisciplinary research team led by Andreas Kleineberg, who re-examined the information provided by Ptolemy, uses the transformed ancient coordinates to locate Setouakoton near Treuchtlingen in Bavaria , which shows traces of Roman and Celtic settlement.
