The single was released on September 13, 2019 as a digital single and two weeks later as a limited 7 "single . The Prequelle Exalted box set, which is limited to 5,000 copies and also contains the two songs of the single , will also be released on September 27, 2019 A music video was shot for the song Kiss the Go-Goat , and towards the end of the video, singer Tobias Forge aka Papa Nihil holds the single in the camera.

According to the official press release, the up-and-coming band Ghost played around singer Papa Nihil in their first concert in the summer of 1969 at Whiskey a Go Go on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood . The concert was to celebrate the first release of the band Seven Inches of Satanic Panic with the songs Kiss the Go-Goat and Mary on a Cross on Galaxy Records . The line-up of the band Ghost fell apart and the original tapes and the video recording of the song Kiss the Go-Goat were lost. Almost 50 years later the songs and the concert recorded on Super 8 by Papa Nihil were found and prepared for publication.

reception

Madeline Ward of the online magazine PULP wrote that the two songs in the single may not have the lyrical elegance of earlier songs like Monstrance Clock , but they would be very memorable. The publication shows that Ghost wouldn't be boring. Despite the ridiculous lyrics and questionable authenticity, the new single is a fun affair. The German magazine Visions led Kiss the Go-Goat on the list of the 25 best music videos of the year of 2019.
