Dance Macabre is a song by the Swedish heavy metal band Ghost . It was the second single from the fourth studio album Prequelle .

Emergence

The song was written by the singer Tobias Forge , who used the pseudonym Cardinal Copia on the album Prequelle . Forge described Dance Macabre as a song that "gets straight to the point" and is intended to strike a balance between two songs Forge described as "ambitious". Forge compared the song to a chase in a feature film . The song was produced by Tom Dalgety. In terms of content, the song deals with the time of the Black Death , which claimed an estimated 25 million lives in Europe between 1346 and 1353 . While many people were dying, the pubs and brothels were in full swing as people partied as if there was no tomorrow as people knew they were going to die.

" Dance Macabre captures this happy, nocturnal lifestyle in a disco song ."

- Tobias Forge

A video for the song was published on Instagram in mid-May 2018. During the video you can hear Dance Macabre , but you can see prominent musicians like Kirk Hammett from Metallica or Phil Anselmo (ex- Pantera ). In October 2018, the band released an official music video . Zev Deans directed the clip that tells the backstory of the character Cardinal Copia .
