Opus Eponymous ( lat. : The self-titled work ) is the debut album by Swedish heavy metal - band Ghost . It was released on October 18, 2010 via Rise Above Records .
history
Following the release of a demo recording with three songs on their own as well as a 7 "- Vinyl - Single with songs Elizabeth and Death Knell for the German record label Iron Pegasus Records in 2009 appeared on 18 October 2010 after the contract is signed with the British label Above Records Rise by Lee Dorrian the debut album Opus Eponymous in Europe. in this are including two instrumentals nine songs, including the four pieces published so far in (but repeated) re-recording. the release in North America on 18 January 2011 on Metal Blade Records , in Japan the album was released on April 6th by Trooper Entertainment with a cover version of the Beatles song Here Comes the Sun as a bonus track .
Before the album was released, the band made a name for themselves because they acted completely anonymously and did not do interviews or photo shoots.

The album was released on CD , vinyl , mp3 download and cassette . In Japan the album was distributed by the Trooper Entertainment label and received the Beatles song Here Comes the Sun as a bonus track .

The cover is taken from the poster of the 1979 Stephen King film Burning Must Be Salem . It shows Papa Emeritus behind a church with his hands raised. Bats, lightning and the full moon are drawn on it. The name of the band adorns him.

Information about the songs
The text of the song Elizabeth was inspired by the legend of the life of the Hungarian Countess Elisabeth Báthory .
reception
The album debuted at number 30 on the Swedish album charts. Opus Eponymous was nominated for the Swedish Grammis Music Award in the hard rock category in 2011 , but the award went to the band Watain . In April 2017, the readers of the German magazine Visions voted for their “300 albums for eternity”, with Opus Eponymous taking 230th place.
