John Terwilliger

John Richard Terwilliger (born December 14, 1957 in Albuquerque ) is a former rower from the United States . With the eighth finish, he was second in the 1984 Olympics and third in the 1986 World Cup.

Career

1.95 m tall John Terwilliger studied and rowed at Seattle Pacific University . At the 1979 World Championships , he took eighth place in the four without a helmsman . In 1980, he missed due to the Olympic boycott participation in the Olympic Games in Moscow . At the 1982 World Championships in Lucerne, Terwilliger finished fourth behind the boats from New Zealand, the GDR and the Soviet Union. In the following year, the eighth finished seventh at the 1983 World Championships in Duisburg.

Of the six first-placed boats from 1983, the world champions from New Zealand, the third-placed Australians and the fifth-placed French also competed at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the boats from the GDR, the USSR and Czechoslovakia were missing because of the Olympic boycott. The US eighth in the line-up Walter Lubsen , Andrew Sudduth , John Terwilliger, Christopher Penny , Thomas Darling , Fred Borchelt , Charles Clapp , Bruce Ibbetson and helmsman Robert Jaugstetter won his preliminary run in Los Angeles, the New Zealanders won the other preliminary run. In the final, the Canadians won with four tenths of a second ahead of the boat from the United States and the Australians, the New Zealanders only achieved fourth place.

Two years later, sitting off the back of 1984 still Terwilliger and Sudduth in the eighth, in the occupation Jonathan Kissick , John Smith , Thomas Kiefer , David Krmpotich , John Terwilliger, Edward Ives , Kevin Still , Andrew Sudduth and helmsman Mark Zembsch in World Championships in Nottingham Bronze won behind the Australians and the boat from the USSR. Terwilliger also belonged to the victorious eighth at the Goodwill Games in 1986 . In 1987 Terwilliger, together with John Walters and Mark Zembsch, took fifth place in a pair with helmsman at the World Championships in Copenhagen . At the 1988 Olympic Games , Terwilliger rowed in a four-man with a helmsman , who finished fifth in the line-up of Terwilliger, Chris Huntington , Thomas Darling, John Walters and Mark Zembsch.

After his career, Terwilliger became a real estate agent in the San Diego area.
