The Seychelles anemonefish ( Amphiprion fuscocaudatus ) lives in the Indian Ocean in lagoons and coral reefs on the coasts of the Seychelles, including the Aldabra group, at depths of 5 to 30 meters. Like all anemonefish, it lives in close symbiosis with large sea anemones . As a host anemone it only accepts Mertens anemone ( Stichodactyla mertensii ).
features
The Seychelles anemonefish is 11 to 14 centimeters long. The length is 1.9 of the body height. The body of this damselfish is dark brown, almost black, on the flanks, the breast, the snout region and the pectoral fins are yellow. The caudal fin shows a black-and-white or dark-transparent striped pattern radiating from the caudal fin stalk. The very similar Mauritius anemonefish ( Amphiprion chrysogaster ) has a black, white-edged caudal fin. The anal and pelvic fins are yellow. Two broad, white horizontal stripes run across the body, the first directly behind the eye, the second starting in the middle of the dorsal fin . Another transverse ligament separates the caudal fin from the caudal fin stalk.
The dorsal fin has eleven hard and 15 to 16 soft rays, the anal fin has two hard and 14 soft rays. The pectoral fins are supported by 20 fin rays. On the first gill arch there are 19 to 21 gill trap processes. Amphiprion chrysogaster becomes 11.5 to 15 centimeters long. The sideline is accompanied by 40 scales.
