Seyifunmi "Seyi" Adeleke (born November 17, 1991 in Lagos ) is a Nigerian football player .

Career

As a teenager, Adeleke played for Golden Planners FC and the Flying Sports Academy in Nigeria's capital, Lagos , before moving to the youth division of the Italian club Lazio in April 2008 . In 2011 he moved up to the professional squad, but was immediately awarded to the third division club US Pergocrema . Adeleke made 17 appearances for the club in the 2011/12 season and scored three goals, but the barely relegation was ultimately irrelevant as the club went bankrupt at the end of the season. Another loan deal followed for the next season; the Italian fourth division US Salernitana was promoted at the end of the season, but Adeleke only made six appearances during the season. Another year on loan followed for Adeleke for the 2013/14 season, and he was to replace the long-term injured Steven Ukoh at the Swiss second division club FC Biel-Bienne . For the club he made twelve appearances in midfield over the course of the season, a higher number of appearances prevented acclimatization problems at the beginning of the loan and a tear in the syndesmosis band in early February 2014, which meant he was out for two months.

In August 2014, the left-footed man signed a one-year contract with the Australian first division club Western Sydney Wanderers , but had to wait six weeks for his work permit and entry to Australia, as the Australian authorities initially gave him a stay in his home country of Nigeria because of the 2014 Ebola virus epidemic refused a visa . Adeleke made four league appearances as a left defender for Sydney in the following months and was also part of the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup . There he was used both in the 3-1 defeat in the quarter-finals against the Central American representative CD Cruz Azul , as well as in the game for 5th place against ES Sétif from Algeria. Against Sétif, Adeleke sealed the defeat on penalties as the eighth shooter of his team with his miss, previously three of his teammates had also given away from the point. This was also his last assignment for the Wanderers, a little later he, like his teammates Kwabena Appiah , Vitor Saba and Daniel Mullen , had to train in a separate training group because the club no longer planned with them. Under pressure from the Australian players' union PFA , he was allowed to return to team training, but ended his contract in early February 2015.

Adeleke returned to Italy and joined the Italian seventh division US Arcella in October 2015. In mid-2016, Adeleke ran the risk of losing his residence permit in Italy because he played with Arcella at an amateur club and therefore, in the opinion of the Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano, no longer counted as a professional athlete.

For the 2017/18 season he played in the northern Cypriot Kuzey Kıbrıs Süper Ligi for Merit Alsancak Yeşilova .

In 2006, Adeleke was part of the squad of the Nigerian U-17 team in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda, but lost his place on the team. In 2011 he took part in the training camp of Nigeria's U-20 team , which served as preparation for the World Cup, but missed participation in the U-20 World Cup due to an injury .
