Shane "rapha" Hendrixson (born March 16, 1989 in Rockford , Illinois ) is a professional American e-athlete who plays for the Liquid team. After his first appearance in 2008, he won 15 tournaments in the first person shooter Quake and was in the top 3 in almost every tournament. Hendrixson is considered one of the best Quake players due to his glorious career in esports and his excellent play style.

Particularly noticeable are his good gaming skills, which he developed in a comparatively small amount of games of two to six weeks a year and which he joined the SK Gaming clan after four years of practice . He finished his first tournament with a third place at the Electronic Sports World Cup 2008. Hendrixson is characterized above all by his forward-looking style of play, which, in addition to good timing and quick positioning, has achieved a firm place in e-sports and hence the nickname " five steps ahead ”. At the end of 2008 Hendrixson reached 1st place at the ESWC in Athens, which was followed by two more top placements in 2009 and 2010, thus securing his leading position. His prize pool is estimated at approximately $ 142,000  .

Career

The first contact with e-sports was made possible by his father at Quakecon . He was then significantly inspired by the former winner of this event in 2002 named John "ZeRo4" Hill , whereupon he said he liked the game Quake because of the balance between speed, tactics and skills. In his youth, his gaming skills saw little or no development as his divorced parents did not have a computer or internet connection. It was only after he lived with his father that the necessary utensils for playing were obtained and since then he has been guaranteed daily exercise.

Since he joined the SK Gaming clan in 2008, he was able to receive personal advice from his idol John Hill and also acted as a teammate. At the ESWC 2008 in San José , Hendrixson reached third place and was able to secure his status as a top player with his victory at the ESWC 2008 in Athens against Sebastian "Spart1e" Siira . On November 6, 2012, Hendrixson announced that he would join the ShootMania team. In an interview with SteelSeries , a computer game and entertainment software retail chain, Hendrixson said that if he is retiring from esports, he is looking to study electrical engineering with a focus on cell phones .

After Overwatch was released, Hendrixson cooperated with veteran Quake players cl0ck and ZeRo4 to take part in a LAN tournament in North America. After the group was disbanded, targeted preparations for Quakecon 2016 followed. One month after its first placement at Quakecon 2016, Team Liquid announced that Hendrixson has joined the team as the sixth member.

Play style

Hendrixson is best known for his positioning, introverted nature, and the ability to foresee the actions of his opponents, which he trained at a young age to play basketball. Accordingly, he attaches great importance to the balance between e-sports and sporting activities. His greatest strength is his empathy , with which Hendrixson tries to anticipate possible actions of the opponent by analyzing tactical and strategic moves of his opponents and trying to understand them. He tries to explain his attitude towards success in esports with the fact that hybris-like behavior will never lead to success, but ambition and ambition are important factors for success. He describes himself as nervous and worried every time before a tournament starts, but once he's in his element, all worries are gone.
