Søndervig is a coastal town in Ringkøbing-Skjern municipality in the Midtjylland region , Denmark .
location
Søndervig is located directly on the Danish North Sea coast , about 8 km west of Ringkøbing . The place is located northwest of the Ringkøbing Fjord at the northern end of the Holmsland Klit .
history
Søndervig has been a popular seaside resort since the 19th century. In the course of the Second World War , the village, which then had 161 inhabitants, was occupied. A fortress was built near the town as part of the Atlantic Wall construction program .
tourism
In its long history as a seaside resort, Søndervig has undergone constant development. Today a large part of the place consists of holiday homes. An annual sand sculpture festival takes place in Søndervig, where up to 12,000 tons of sand are transformed into sculptures several meters high and exhibited. There is now a golf course not far away.
