Shaun Murphy (* 1948 in Omaha , Nebraska ; actually Cheryl Murphy ), also known as Stoney , is an American rock - and rhythm and blues - singer and percussionist . She became known primarily for her work with Meat Loaf and later as the front woman of Little Feat .

Murphy grew up in Omaha and then moved to Cedar Rapids , Iowa and later to Detroit . There she was discovered in a theater production by a Motown employee and got a recording contract with the label. In 1971 she recorded the album Stoney & Meat Loaf under the name Stoney together with the then unknown singer Meat Loaf under the direction of Jim Steinman . Then the duo split up.

Stoney began working with Bob Seger . After singing along on his Beautiful Loser album in 1975 , she changed her name to Shaun Murphy. She continued working with Seger in the 1980s and toured with Eric Clapton . In 1988 she was first heard on Let It Roll on an album by the rock band Little Feat, where she replaced Craig Fuller as lead singer in 1993 . She also played on albums by Alice Cooper , Michael Bolton , Maria Muldaur and others in the 1990s . In the spring of 2009, the other members of Little Feat separated from her. She then formed the Shaun Murphy Band.
