Ronald Shavlik Randolph (born November 24, 1983 in Raleigh , North Carolina ) is an American basketball player .

High school

Randolph attended Needham B. Broughton High School in his native Raleigh. After graduating from high school, he led the school on points, rebounds, and blocks. He also broke the school record for points scored in a game with 70 points, which had previously been set by Pete Maravich .

college

Randolph's college career was rather disappointing. In three years he played 92 times for Duke University and was used 36 times from the start, but averaged only 6.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.

Professional career

In 2005 Randolph signed up for the NBA draft , but was not selected by any team.

Philadelphia 76ers

He signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in August 2005 and made 57 games in his debut season. His season bests were 10 points and 13 rebounds, an average of 2.3 points and rebounds per game. The team could not reach the playoffs despite the stars Allen Iverson and Chris Webber . In November 2006, Randolph broke his ankle during a training session. This injury meant that Randolph played just 22 season and two playoff games in his second and third seasons with Philadelphia.

Portland Trail Blazers

In late September 2008, the Portland Trail Blazers took him under contract, in which he was used in a championship game for the first time after 38 games this season. He played his first game on January 14, 2009 against his old Philadelphia team, where he recorded four points in four minutes. For the Blazers he ran ten times in the 2008/09 season and averaged 1.8 points and rebounds. At the end of the season, Portland did not renew the contract with Randolph.

Miami Heat, return to Portland and return to Miami

For the 2009/10 season he signed with the Miami Heat , which released him from his contract in December 2009. The Trail Blazers then signed him again, released him shortly afterwards and provided him with a 10-day contract two days later. At the end of the season he was re-signed by the Heat. He played six games over the season.

Time in Puerto Rico and China

In April 2011, Randolph moved to Puerto Rico to Gallitos from Isabela after six months without a club. In the same year he moved to China to the Dongguan Leopards, from which he moved back to Puerto Rico to the Piratas from Quebradillas the following year . In preparation for the 2012/13 season , he signed with the Washington Wizards . However, he did not make it into the final roster of the wizards, whereupon he hired again in China with the Foshan Long Lions.

Boston Celtics

After a convincing performance in China, Randolph signed a 10-day contract with the Boston Celtics . After this contract had initially been extended for another ten days, the Celtics announced on March 21, 2013 that Randolph had signed a multi-year contract. However, he was released from this on August 1, 2013.

Return to China

In October 2013, Randolph returned to China to his old club, the Foshan Long Lions.

Phoenix Suns

On March 1, 2014, the Phoenix Suns signed him , for which he was used in 14 games by the end of the season.

Return to the Boston Celtics

On January 16, 2015, he was transferred from the Phoenix Suns to the Boston Celtics.

Others

Randolph is the grandson of former professional basketball player Ronnie Shavlik, who played for the New York Knicks in the late 1950s . He wears the number 42 on his back, half of the number his grandfather wore (number 84).
