Shay Abutbul ( Hebrew שי אבוטבול, Shai Abutbul ; Born January 16, 1983 in Bat Yam ) is an Israeli soccer player . He currently plays for Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Ligat ha'Al , the highest Israeli division.

Career

Abutbul started his career in the youth department of Hapoel Tel Aviv. In 2002 he was brought into the first team. In his first season he was third with the club and was able to compete in the UEFA Cup the following season . The Israeli made his first game at European club level on September 24, 2003 against Gaziantepspor from Turkey . He played through, but the game in Gaziantep was lost 0-1. In the end of this season, they only finished fifth in the championship. After a ninth place in 2004/05 they could become runner-up in 2005/06, and on top of that, Abutbul and Hapoel won the Israeli Cup by defeating Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv 1-0 in the city derby.

2006/07 they finished fourth and could repeat the cup success from the previous year. In the next season they fell back to seventh place, which they concealed by participating in the cup final, they lost to Beitar Jerusalem on penalties. In 2008/09 the runner-up title could be won. Abutbul has played a total of seven seasons with Hapoel Tel Aviv's first team.

Internationally, the midfielder has played for the U-19 and U-21 side of Israel, where he acted as captain in the U-21, but he has not yet been nominated for the A-team.
