The Shibanpo-Yangtze Bridge ( Chinese  石板 坡 长江 大桥 , Pinyin Shíbǎnpō chángjiāng dàqiáo ) is a road bridge that crosses the Yangtze River in Chongqing City, China and the district of Yuzhong , i.e. the actual city center, with the district of Nan'an on the south side of the river connects.

The Yangtze River is 940 m wide at the bridge. First bridge

The first bridge or the first part of today's bridge was built between 1977 and 1980. It was the first road bridge over the Yangtze in Chongqing and had two lanes in each direction of travel and a sidewalk and bike path. The bridge was designed by TY Lin International Group , an engineering company headquartered in San Francisco, USA. The steel middle section was produced in Wuhan as a 103 m long, 1325 t heavy box girder with two 2.5 m long transition pieces. The box girder was welded shut and the approximately 1000 km long stretch on the Yangtze and through the locks of the Three Gorges Dam was towed to the construction site, where it was connected to the transition pieces by Dorman Long and lifted into place.

The opening of the bridge on June 23, 2006 was celebrated with a large fireworks display.
