Shibataea is a bamboo genus of the Arundinarieae tribe.

description

These small species reach heights of between 0.5 and 2 meters. The stalk thickness is up to 0.7 cm. One branch grows per node . The plant species of the genus form clumps .

etymology

The name Shibataea is reminiscent of the Japanese botanist Keita Shibatea (1897–1949).

Types and distribution

The seven to ten Shibataea species are native to southeast China. One species was introduced to Japan long ago as an ornamental plant , has been planted many times, and has feral in eastern Japan. Here is the list of recognized species:
