Shim Eun-kyung (born May 31, 1994 in Seoul ) is a South Korean actress . She is best known for her leading roles in the very successful films Sunny (2011) and Miss Granny (2014). She won the Grand Bell Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Romantic Heaven (2011).

Life

In 2007 she played a young girl in the horror film Hansel & Gretel who lives with her family in the forest and from whose house you cannot escape. In Sunny , she plays a girl who moves to Seoul with her family from Jeolla Province . At the new high school, she is quickly accepted into a seven-person clique called Sunny .

In the comedy Miss Granny (2014) she plays a 70-year-old woman who suddenly finds herself in the body of a 20-year-old. In 2016 she starred in the thriller Missing You , in which she is looking for her father's killer.

Shim also played the leading female role in the superhero film Telekinesis (2018). The film is about a father who inadvertently receives superpowers and uses them to help his daughter and other people, but who later faces problems. At first she was concerned that she was playing a normal person in the film, while the characters in her previous roles had particular characteristics and peculiarities. Shim said in an interview that she always felt she had to perform well and always felt like she was selling badly. But telekinesis made that obsession go away. You can now act more relaxed.

In 2020 Shim received the Japanese Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the film The Journalist ( Shinbun kisha ).
