Shin Saburi ( Japanese 佐 分 利 信 , Saburi Shin , real name: Yoshio Ishizaki ( 石 崎 由 雄 ); born February 12, 1909 in Utashinai ( Hokkaidō ); died September 22, 1982 ) was a Japanese film actor who worked until shortly before his death participated in numerous films and was also active as a director.

Live and act

Born the son of a miner, Saburi first worked as a middle school teacher, then went to Tokyo and got through life with various activities.

From 1929 he attended the film acting school ( 日本 映 画 俳 優 学校 , Nihon eiga haiyū gakkō ) in Tōkyō, the forerunner of today's private film school ( 日本 映 画 大学 , Nihon eiga dagaku ). In 1930 he went with colleagues to Kyoto to the Nikkatsu film company with the desire to become a director, but came to the actor training department. In his first film "I hate Japan" ( 日本 嫌 , Nihon kirai ) he appeared under the stage name Gen Shimazu ( 島 津 元 ).

Saburi later moved to Shōchiku , where he soon belonged to the company's three great actors with Shūji Sano and Ken Uehara ( 上原 謙 ; 1909–1991). He appeared in a total of 188 films, including a number of films by Ozu Yasujirō . There were also numerous series for television. He directed 14 films himself.

In 1975 Saburi received the Imperial Medal of Honor for his artistic achievement.
