Shinobu Muraki

Shinobu Muraki ( Japanese 村 木 忍 Muraki Shinobu ; born September 2, 1923 in Tokyo Prefecture , † January 16, 1997 ) was a Japanese set designer and art director .

Life

Muraki began her career on the film staff in 1953 in Kon Ichikawa's drama Aoiro kakumei . From 1955 she also worked as art director for several films, including Dodeskaden - Menschen im Abseits from 1970. Her work has received several awards in Japan, including three awards for best production design at the Mainichi Eiga Concours . At the Japanese Academy Awards , she was nominated seven times for the award for Best Production Design between 1978 and 1990. From 1986 to 1988 she won the award three times in a row, including for Akira Kurosawa's Jidai-geki Ran .

For Ran she was nominated together with Muraki Yoshirō in 1986 for the Oscar in the category Best Production Design and the BAFTA Film Award in the category Best Production Design. However, both awards went to other films; the Oscar to Out of Africa and the BAFTA Award to Rooms with a View .

Muraki was married to Muraki Yoshirō , and both worked together a few times, including at Ran and Dodeskaden - people on the sidelines .
