Shoprite Holdings Limited (Zambia) Plc is a public company based in Zambia . It is a secondary listing on the Lusaka Stock Exchange . The parent company Shoprite Holdings is based in the Republic of South Africa and operates 846 supermarkets in 17 countries with 2006 sales of US $ 4.8 billion (2002: 2.4 billion) worldwide. Shoprite Holdings Limited (Zambia) has hardly any independence. The share was first traded on February 15, 2003. Since then the price has risen from K 4,200 to K 11,948 (Dec. 2006).

The company operates 17 supermarkets and a warehouse. The main focus of the branches is the Copperbelt with seven supermarkets ( Solwezi , Mufulira , Chingola , Kitwe , Luanshya , Ndola , Kabwe ), all others are in regional economic centers such as Kasama , Mansa , Chipata , Mazabuka , Mongu Livingstone , Manda Hill , Chilenje , Matero , Cairo .

The company employs 918 people permanently and 699 occasionally. In addition, 196 work in security, 150 in advertising and 64 in cleaning. This means that there are 2027 jobs. 60 percent of them are female. A further 75 work in management, 69 of them in lower management, bringing the total number of jobs to 2102.
