history

Start time

In the Bronx -born Andre M. Barnes visited the local DeWitt Clinton High School , where he Robert Hall ( Lord Finesse ) in the school's Rap Battles met and made friends with him. He gave himself the stage name AG as a short form for Andre the Giant. He was named by his uncle because of his small body size as a tribute to the French wrestler André the Giant . Lord Finesse and DJ Mike Smooth signed with Wild Pitch Records in 1990 and started work on their debut album Funky Technician . AG appeared as a rapper for the first time on the two tracks Keep It Flowing and Back to Back Rhyming . The latter was produced by Rodney LeMay (Showbiz) and shortly thereafter the two decided to work together as a duo under the name Showbiz & AG. The first EP , called Soul Clap , was released in 1991, which the two said they sold out of the trunk of their car. In this, both appear as rappers, Showbiz also took over the production. The quick attention attracted bigger labels and they signed with Payday Records . In the same year, the release of the album Runaway Slave followed , which contained a shortened version of the title Soul Clap from the EP. This track is still one of the most successful of the duo today. The album received positive reviews but never became a commercial success.

In 1993 Showbiz became known outside of the scene as the producer of the single Sound of da Police by KRS-One . Shortly thereafter, Showbiz shortened its name to Show and the duo subsequently appeared as Show & AG. In 1995 they released the album Goodfellas under this new name , which reached 23rd place in the US R&B / Hip-Hop album charts as the highest position. AG took over the rap parts in full, while Show concentrated on producing. D-Flow , Diamond D, DJ Premier , Dres , Lord Finesse, Method Man and Roc Raida also appeared as guest artists on the album . The album differed significantly from the previous album with a slower beat and a generally darker atmosphere. The Nyte Time remix of the single Next Level by DJ Premier reached 27th place in the US rap charts and is generally considered to be the duo's most successful track to date. After again bad sales figures, Show & AG left the Payday label and took a short break.

Full scale and other projects

In 1998 the duo reported back with the EP Full Scale , which was released on DITC Records and was released in the same year under the same name as an album on Fat Beats . This publication received little attention. After the release show designed & AG their cooperation on ice, on the one hand at the hip-hop collective Diggin 'in the Crates (DITC) with famous artists such as Diamond D, Lord Finesse, OC , Fat Joe , Buck Wild and Big L cooperate and on the other hand, to focus on their solo careers. AG released his first solo album The Dirty Version in 1999 on the Silva Dom Records label . This contained only one single release with Rude Awakening , was recorded again with several guest artists and produced by Show, among others. During this time, AG was also a guest of other artists. 2000 the first album of the collective DITC was released under the group name, in which show and AG participated.

After several single releases in the following years, AG signed with Look Records in 2005 . However, the commercial breakthrough was still denied him and none of the works received much attention. Meanwhile, he continued to appear on the scene as a guest with other rapper artists. In 2006 his second album Get Dirty Radio was released with the double single Frozen / Hip Hop Quotable .

Show released his first solo album Street Talk (DITC) in November 2005 , but only appeared as a producer on it. The rap parts were taken over by OC, Party Arty , Milano , Fat Joe, Sean Price , Big Punisher and Big L. On two tracks, Chase Game and You Ain't A Killer , AG raped and the duo was reunited after a seven-year break.

reunion

The final reunion of Show & AG was celebrated with the EP Live Hard . The album Mugshot Music followed in 2012 .

Both artists have since released solo albums. AG released the album Oasis in cooperation with OC in 2009 and a year later Everything's Berri and Show in February 2011 Godsville with KRS-One.
