Roc Raida

Roc Raida (real name Anthony Williams ; born May 18, 1972 in New York City , † September 19, 2009 ibid) was an American DJ , music producer and one of the most important turntablists . He was also known as a member of the band The X-Ecutioners .

Career

Roc Raida was born in 1972 under the name Anthony Williams. Through his father, who was a member of the rap group Mean Machine , Williams came into contact with hip-hop music as a child. He started working on turntables at the age of ten. In 1989 Raida founded the DJ group X-Men, the composition of which has changed several times over the years. Other important members were Steve Dee, Rob Swift and Total Ecplise.

In 1995 Roc Raida became world champion at the DMC DJ World Championships . In 1997, X-Men received a record deal with the label Asphodel Records , which made them the first pure DJ group to sign a contract with a music label, alongside the Invisibl Skratch Piklz from San Francisco . For legal reasons, the band had to change their name to X-Ecutioners before their first album was released. In September 1997 the debut album X-Pressions was released.

In 1997 Roc Raida also released his first solo album. This appeared under the title The Adventures of Roc Raida… One Too Many! via the label Fat Beats . In 1999 he was inducted into the DMC Hall of Fame . The album Crossfaderz followed a year later, which includes songs with DJ QBert , DJ Premier , The Beatnuts , Diamond D , Common and Big L , among others . We Them Niggas was released in 2001 as a third solo album.

The X-Ecutioners' second album followed in 2002. Built from Scratch was released through Loud Records , Sony Music and features guest contributions from numerous prominent musicians including Xzibit , Kool G Rap , Big Punisher , MOP , Large Professor , Biz Markie and Everlast . A third album was released in 2004 under the title Revolutions . Again pieces with well-known musicians such as Ghostface Killah , Cypress Hill , Fat Joe and Rob Zombie were created .

The last publication of Roc Raida appeared in 2007. The album he produced, Beats, Cuts and Skits , was released on the Adiar Cor Records label . Guests include Dilated Peoples and Linkin Park . Williams died on the morning of September 19, 2009. Cardiac arrest, which had occurred as a result of a sports accident, was named as the cause of death. Most recently he was the official tour DJ for Busta Rhymes .
