Shughni or Khughni ( Persian : شغنانی) is a southeastern Iranian language in Tajikistan and in the province of Badakhshan in Afghanistan is spoken.
Like many Iranian and Indo-European languages , Shughni tends towards the SOP word order, differentiating between a masculine and a feminine gender in nouns and some adjectives as well as the third person singular of verbs . In his pronouns Shughni has a bicasus inflection with a rectus case (nominative) and an obliquus for everything else. The Rushani dialect is known for a typologically unusual "double obliquus" construction, which in the past tense is also referred to as "transitive case". Shughni is closely related to Yazghulami .

Rushani, Bartangi, Oroshor (Roshorvi), Khufi and Shughni are considered dialects. However, Bartangi and Khufi are very different and can be separate languages.
