The criminal American diamond dealer Lucas Hill, who knows his way around Russia and speaks fluent Russian, wants to sell diamonds to the Russian oligarch Volkov together with a Russian friend in St. Petersburg. When his friend disappears with the goods, Hill travels to Mirny in Siberia, where the friend is supposed to stay and the friend's brother works in a large diamond mine.
