The white-bellied ant slip ( Myrmotherula longicauda ) belongs to the genus Myrmotherula within the ant bird family (Thamnophilidae) .
The species occurs in Bolivia , Ecuador , southwest Colombia, and Peru along the east side of the Andes .
The distribution area includes moist forest edges on the foothills of the eastern Andes , tropical or subtropical moist lowland forest, mountain forest and former tree-lined habitats between 400 and 1800 m altitude.
The Latin additional species comes from the Latin longus 'long' and the Latin cauda 'tail' .
features
The species is small for ant hatchers, but has a comparatively long tail. The male is black with white or pale gray thin stripes on the head, chest and back and has a thin black chin stripe and a thin white stripe above the eyes. The wings are black, the wing-coverts have wide, the hand and arm wings narrow white edges. The tail is black with white tips, the underside is white, lightly dashed on the chest and flanks. The female has reddish brown wing bands, no chin stripe and reddish brown breast coloration. The species occurs at higher altitudes than the Amazonian bar ant hatchers ( Myrmotherula multostriata ), which has a significantly shorter tail, as does the similar white stripe ant hatchers ( Myrmotherula cherriei ), but both are more strongly striped on the underside.
The following subspecies are recognized:
- M. l. soderstromi Gyldenstolpe , 1930 - South Colombia and North Ecuador
- M. l. pseudoaustralis Gyldenstolpe , 1930 - Eastern Ecuador to Northern Peru
- M. l. longicauda Berlepsch & Stolzmann , 1984, nominated form - Central Peru
- M. l. australis Chapman , 1923 - Southeast Peru and Northwest Bolivia
voice
The singing usually consists of 6 short clear tones, a little faster than 1 / s and is described as "tee-tip tee-tip tee-tip tee-tip tee-tip".
Way of life
The food consists of small insects and spiders , which are hunted in pairs, mostly not in mixed hunting communities in medium tree to treetop height, mostly between 2 and 8 m high.
No information is yet available on the breeding season and the nest.
Hazardous situation
The stock is not considered to be at risk ( least concern ).
