Sibert of Ryswick

Sibert von Ryswick († June 22, 1540 ) was a Catholic clergyman and politician.

Life

Born as the son of Derik von Ryswick, ducal rentmaster of Kleve , he enrolled at the University of Cologne in 1487 and studied there.

From 1491 to 1501, and again from 1524, pastor of Kalkar , from 1498 to 1518 he was canon at St. Clemens zu Wissel Monastery , where he was provost from 1495 to 1520 . A canon in Xanten since 1508 , he was also provost of Oldenzaal from 1518, provost to St. Kunibert in Cologne from 1520 and finally archdeacon in Utrecht . Shortly afterwards he also became provost in Kleve. At the instigation of Duke Johann III. von Kleve he became a thesaurary of the Canonical Foundation of Xanten in 1533 . From 1529 to 1533 Chancellor of the Duke of Kleve-Mark, he was then ducal councilor.
