Safe pharmacy on the market square in Heilbronn

The Safe'sche Pharmacy at Kaiserstraße 32 in Heilbronn is a listed pharmacy . The pharmacy goes back to the Apotheke zum Schwanen , which already existed at this location in the 14th century and was given its current name in the 18th century by the Safe Pharmacists. The current building was erected in 1950 as part of the reconstruction after the air raid on December 4, 1944 , which destroyed the historic building.

history

The history of the pharmacy at this point goes back to the year 1359. Around the year 1500, an elegant half-timbered building in Swabian-Alemannic style was built for the pharmacy that was originally known as the Apotheke zum Schwanen . Your name Sicherer'sche pharmacy she received in 1767 by Johann Philipp Friedrich Safe (1726-1805), who led the pharmacy since 1754 and his son Gottfried Christoph Safe and grandson Karl August Safe († 1840 brother of Philip Safe followed). Apotheker Harmuth was able to purchase the building on December 4, 1934, but it was destroyed in the air raid on Heilbronn on December 4, 1944. Harmuth had the pharmacy rebuilt in 1950 according to plans by Gustav Ernst Kistenmacher or according to plans by the Frankfurt architect Gerhard Brielke and the graphic artist AW Sauter . The resumption of the pre-war tradition of the Heimat style is remarkable.

The Heilbronner Apotheke is the first significant new pharmacy building in Heilbronn in the post-war period. A Merian magazine published in 1952 shows the house in several photographs by Toni Schneiders and praises it as a “modern shop . With a generous architectural spirit, the owner had leading architects and artists build a state-of-the-art pharmacy that reflects the sense of style and the practical requirements of our time. With the intention of achieving aesthetics and objectivity at the same time, every detail was incorporated into the overall composition with the greatest care, right down to the jars and lettering. description

General view of the building

The new building from 1950 was the first modern Offizin Apotheke in Heilbronn. The pharmacy of the Safe Pharmacy includes both the sales room of the pharmacy and the place of work of the pharmacist Harmuth as a specialist pharmacist within the pharmacy . Therefore, the artistic design of the dispensing not only related to the building or its sales area, but also to the containers and labels.

For this reason, the Safe'sche Apotheke represents an artistic overall composition, both from the architecture of the house with the gallery and from the craftsmanship of the apothecary vessels. The graphic artist AW Sauter took care of the interior fittings and designed storage vessels made of wood, ceramic or glass. The apothecary jars are the work of designer Heinz Löffelhardt . Therefore, both the building and the interior are under monument protection.

Exterior

The building is a straightforward, simple three-story plastered building with a gable roof and dormers . The ground and first floors have almost entirely a glass facade. The elongated window front of the gallery on the first floor was designed as a flower window and for a long time displayed rich plant decorations, which at times extended to the entire gallery on the first floor.

Interior

The sales room is presented as a gallery, that is, as an open architecture that extends over two floors. The sales room is on the ground floor, and a gallery with an office above .

The pharmacy's office on the ground floor is strictly separated into a homeopathic part and an " allopathic " part.

There are medical practices on the other upper floors .

Monument protection

The building is a cultural monument, whereby the building was placed under monument protection in 1989 and the facility in 1994.
