Sida hermaphrodita or Virginia mallow is a species of the species-rich genus Sida in the mallow family (Malvaceae). It is common in dry and sunny locations in North America . Their common names in the distribution area are "Virginia mallow" or "Virginia fanpetals".

Sida hermaphrodita grows as a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 1.2 to 3 meters. The stem is branched and upright. The stalked leaves have a deeply lobed leaf blade with three to seven lanceolate lobes, with the middle one being the longest. The leaf margin is serrated.
The numerous flowers stand together in terminal, paniculate inflorescences . The small white flowers are only 1 to 2 centimeters in diameter. The calyx lobes are short and wide. The long, egg-shaped petals are pointed.
The flowering period extends from June to October.

The most extensive experience in Europe with the cultivation and use of Sida hermaphrodita is in Poland. Since its introduction in 1955, it has been researched at the Lublin Agricultural Academy and is now grown on around 200 hectares in Poland. It is seen as a potential energy plant . Pellets, biogas or methanol can be obtained from the plant to generate energy. It is a high quality fodder and can be used to make insulation and cellulose. The honey yield is up to 120 kg per hectare.
